The Fourth of the July is right around the corner, so for most of us that brings plans of barbecues, swimming pools, beach days and fireworks. But what are the best activities for your preschoolers or toddlers this Fourth of July? We've come up with a short list so that you can make the best of this great holiday!

1. Have a special breakfast - For most of us, mornings can be super busy rushing from here to there. Take the time this holiday to make red, white and blue pancakes! This is a super simple idea. Just make the pancakes as normal and have you child add blueberries and strawberries on top. Add a little whipped cream and you have a patriotic pancake party. Yum!

2. Finger paint a Flag - Give your child a chance to show their creative side. Use red, white and blue finger paint on a paper plate and guide their little hands to make red and white lines and make blue dots for the stars. You may need a few "extras" for several masterpieces. (wink)

3. Teach them a song - Preschool aged children and toddlers LOVE flags. Purchase a small, handheld American flag and teach them the song, "Wave the Flag" (Sung to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"). Here are the words:

Wave, wave, wave the flag,
Hold it very high.
the colors gently wave,
Way up in the sky.
March, march, march around,
Hold the flag up high.
Wave, wave, wave the flag,
Way up in the sky.

4. Go see the fireworks - Fireworks are a wonderful tradition when it comes to the Fourth of July, but for some young children they can be too loud or scary. If you decide to go, purchase earplugs or bring headphones for your child to wear if the noise gets to be too much. Bug spray, snacks and a place to sit (stroller, blanket or chair) are a must for your child as well! Explain to your child ahead of time what to expect (bright lights and loud pops) and that it is a celebration or party for America's birthday. Children love birthdays!
